•Malaysia’s got STEM talent, and we’re here for them.
We’re working with the country’s next generation to build their skills and capabilities in STEM, motivating young people to consider future careers in these fields.
Malaysia Public and Government Affairs Manager, Muhamad Syahril Hussin is proud that our support for Malaysia has grown as the country and its people’s needs change.
“More than sixty years ago, we set up scholarships and supported programs to help build Malaysia in its early years of nationhood. This grew to include safety, health, environmental conservation and the arts,” he says.
"Today, our programs continue to create long-term benefits for the country. Our education programs focus on raising STEM knowledge that can be used in the workplace and everyday life. We also improve teachers’ skills to help make science come alive in classrooms,” adds Syahril.
Discover five other ways we’re supporting the next generation of STEM talent and some programs helping to build a better future in Malaysia

Terengganu-ExxonMobil Mathematics Innovation Challenge (TEXMIC)
A student-centered and creative approach to teaching mathematics. The program uses various IT applications and hardware, requiring students to innovate a product, model or prototype using both math and IT skills to solve everyday problems.

STEM Development Program
A program with Universiti Malaya and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia aimed at lifting teachers’ skills in both primary and secondary schools and developing their abilities as STEM master trainers in the Malaysian state of Terengganu, including how to develop digital content.
3.
ExxonMobil Young Engineer Program
ExxonMobil volunteers engage with high school science stream students in the Klang Valley and Terengganu to educate them about the energy sector and inspire the next generation of Malaysia’s scientists and engineers.
4.
Spark Your Creativity Challenge
An annual STEM-focused competition that aims to develop greater creative and critical thinking skills in science, technology and innovation as well as a competitive attitude among students in Terengganu.
5.
ExxonMobil STEM Awards
A program that recognizes students, schools and districts in Terengganu that excel in pure science subjects like chemistry, physics and biology. The program was recently expanded to include recognition for teachers.
